Camping Fun

On the last weekend before school started we chose to go camping at Milford Lake. Actually we had some friends offer to take Maddi camping with them and her friend Elizabeth (whom you have seen pics of in some of my posts). They have a boat and planned to do some fishing and tubing and stay in a tent. We thought it would be fun (except for the tent) so we rented a cabin and planned to stay as well and participate in the activities. Unfortunately they had to cancel after we had booked the cabin but we decided to keep our reservations and try something new.

What we learned over the weekend:

1. SeaDoos can break down.
2. I hate putting worms on fishing hooks.
3. Camping is more work than it is worth.
4. SeaDoos can break down.
5. Maddi can ride and control a SeaDoo at 40 mph, with me hanging on for dear life!
6. The cabins you get for $ 65.00 / night are NOT similar to a hotel room you get for the same price.
7. SeaDoos can break down.
8. Kids have fun when you Tailor your activities to the things they like to do.
9. Kids do not have fun when parents choose an activity they enjoy.
10. There are huge fish in the lake.
11. It takes a lot of work to start a good fire for cooking.
12. Kids will not eat burnt food.
13. SeaDoos can break down.
14. It is a once in a lifetime experience, because....we will never do it again!

A story I must tell you: So by the end of the first afternoon we were there the SeaDoo we borrowed from Amy's co-worker broke down. We had only logged about 6 miles on it before it died and it was terribly disappointing as this was going to be the main source of our entertainment for the weekend. What were going to do for another two days without the SeaDoo? As chance would have it a family with a 6 year old boy moved into the cabin next door to us while we were sleeping the first night. The next morning we met them down on the beach that we shared behind our cabins. They had two SeaDoos beached next to our dead one so I explained what it was doing and got some input and feedback from him. We determined it was not going to be usable and he immediately offered to allow us to use his through the course of the day. I felt strange about it so I never pushed the issue but when his son wanted to go tubing and he wanted to fish he asked if I would like take them out. These people literally saved our vacation. We hung out with them most of the day and the girls had a great time playing with the little boy who we discovered through conversation is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of two and in February was told the cancer was gone. He was a really nice little boy and we are eternally grateful to these people for their generosity. The little boy's name is Carson, please keep him in your prayers that the cancer does not return.
