Haiti relief auction

Purple Wave was the host of an auction to benefit Haiti relief efforts this past week. Amy had to work the event so the girls and I spent our evening there with her. K-State coaches Bill Snyder (football), Frank Martin (men's basketball), and Deb Patterson (women's basketball) along with former women's b-ball stars Shalee Lehning, and Marlies Gipson were on hand to sign autographs for a small donation to the cause. Shalee is now in the WNBA and a recruiter for Kansas State. Maddi was really excited to meet the coaches and get their autographs. Bill Snyder was really sweet to her, got down at her level and talked with her about her sport and her grades. After hearing that she was a straight A student he whispered in her ear "Tell your parents you deserve a raise in you allowance for your good grades." Deb Patterson told her to be sure and ask her parents to take her to the upcoming Iowa State game that was coming up on Sunday afternoon. She was really excited about it and wanted to go. I was able to get some tickets from a friend who was not going to attend and we had a great time. She thought for sure that Deb would spot that she was there and be really happy about it. Unfortunately Deb was pretty busy coaching.
The auction was a huge success and raised over $ 35,000 which blew away their goal of $ 6,000. It was great to see the community come together to raise money for such a worthy cause.
