Maddi's 10th Birthday party

We celebrated Maddi's 10th birthday this weekend with her friends. We started it off with a trip to Topeka to pick up Gabi an ex-classmate that moved there after 2nd grade. We brought her back to Manhattan for the party and sleepover. We arrived back in Manhattan with Maddi's best friend Haley waiting out front of the house. Elizabeth and Brigitta (and Brigitta's sister Bashka stayed the night with Abbey) arrived shortly after that. The first thirty minutes of her party Maddi spent resting in our bedroom with a pretty bad headache. After waking her she felt better and was great the rest of the evening. Amy's parents were bored at home and decided to join in some of the fun for the evening and ended up watching the K-State / KU game with me.
The party started off with the girls getting to make their own pizzas. After dinner Jen Samenus came over and she and Amy gave the girls "Wacky" hair-dos, painted their nails and put on make up.
We then gave them random pieces fabric and the challenge of using the fabric to make a "designer" outfit for each of them. Once their outfits were created they came out and walked the runway in a fashion show. They then got into their pjs and played a sleeping bag guessing game. One girl would go into the other room while the others hid in sleeping bags on the floor. The one waiting in the other room would then come out and have to guess who is in each sleeping bag by feeling the person inside. Many times it was a laugh or giggle that gave them away, but I was amazed at how some would feel for socks or certain types of pants that they knew the other girls were wearing. I even surprised one of them and hid in place of one of the girls....she was a little embarrassed to see it was me after she jumped on top of me. After the game we sang Happy Birthday, had cake and ice-cream and opened gifts. The evening ended with the big girls watching Jumanji in their sleeping bags in the living room and the little girls watching Hotel for Dogs in the play room upstairs. We woke bright and early, the little girls played Wii and the big girls played Rock Band. After breakfast we started the process of getting ready for Church. It was a challenge to fit in showers for 9 of us and get to Mass by 11:00 but we pulled it off.
We then honored Maddi's promise to Deb Patterson and took the girls to watch the K-State women's basketball team beat Iowa State this afternoon. We sat really close to the floor right next to the tunnel so it was fun for the girls to watch the team come through as well as Bill Snyder and Frank Martin. They got autographs from Willie and saw many of their friends and classmates perform at half time with the Classy Cats.
Maddi's b-day celebration will continue on this week with a small family party on Tuesday night and we will attend the K-State women's game on Wednesday night. K-State is offering free admission to girls 13 and under who come with a sports jersey or t-shirt on. They are also letting the girls come down on the floor and get the players' autographs. She is really looking forward to it.

Happy Birthday Maddi.
